as someone from snow's hometown who at the height of that song's popularity found herself half a world away helping a cover band in pakistan figure out the words to perform it for a party... well let's just say i hate you for making me dig up that memory, because i thought i'd purged it all and now all i can hear is "...people dem say you come from Jamaica...".
i was 16 and decided to travel with my dad for about a month while he was hopping around a few asian countries for business. an associate of his had a band on the side and we chatted over music lyrics since his band pretty much did everything by ear (not that it mattered since much of the audience would never really notice if they were wrong. and that goes for any non-english country. a friend of mine in italy during the 90s remix renaissance of the bee gee's "stayin' alive" said all the italian clubgoers sang along with "stemmin' an eye"). good fun! he now lives in toronto and still plays. i hope snow is no longer part of his repertoire.
It's about how he was framed for a murder or robbery or something. I *think* the murder of his girlfriend, but if I commit to that statement I'd just be perpetuating internet gossip. I actually got hold of the lyrics when that song came out and tried to sing along...that's right, I admit it, I got on the Snow bandwagon for 5 minutes.

I'll lick your boom boom down. He's just speaking in English really, really quickly.
But what about the rest? He seems to prattle on for a good 60 seconds at one stage in a hyper-syllabic rage.
I always thought it was, 'I licky boom boom bam', which never did make a great deal of sense.

Somehow I knew you'd know that song, Livi.
And you taught it to a Pakistani cover band??? Too cool, too cool.

I had very little taste back in the day.
Don't worry, Estars, when you were liking snow I was liking Belinda Carlisle. We all have our past musical skeletons.
